Local Food Ambassador: Angela Romano
Meet a local food ambassador in our community , Angela Romano.
Angela has always tried to support local, but her dedication and decision to choose local began in 2011 when she decided to try and get healthier by doing a three-week fitness challenge at a local studio. It was then that she went on a personal journey to live a healthier lifestyle. "I started to choose healthier, locally sourced, less processed foods, and began to see the value of knowing where your food comes from.”
She has always believed in being an advocate for the community. "I genuinely love where I live, and because of this, I truly want local businesses to succeed. Local businesses are the heart of our community and, in many cases, are the lifeblood." Angela explained that, to her, , local means authentic, exceptional customer service, and people who are passionate about what they are doing. "Knowing where your food is coming from and how it's produced and grown is important to me, and with local food sources, I can easily find this information out."
Through the years, she built various relationships with local producers and business owners, which is an enriching experience. Farmers and producers greet her by name whenever she stops by her local farmers' market or business locations around Sault Ste. Marie. "I have developed strong bonds with many, and it is always from a good place. The smiles and friendly chat are what keeps me loyal to these wonderful people. Supporting local means, you are helping the local economy, but you are also helping hard-working local families make a good living doing what they love, and that is amazing!"
Angela has been getting excited about the different collaboration she is seeing among restaurants and producers. "Big Lake Cabin has been doing some amazing things using locally sourced ingredients. Another one is Embers Grill & Smokehouse. We have many great places that incorporate locally sourced food; I encourage everyone to support them."
Angela has always spread her love around and encourages everyone to do the same. "There has never been a more important time than now to show some love to local businesses!"
